As we enter a new year of opportunity, life feels shiny. It smells good and clean, just like a new car.
Chances are, your new car is a previously owned model that could use a tune up. Before we move on, can anyone tell me when the term “used car” become dirty? If I had to guess, it was around the same time we started calling secretaries Executive Assistants and using the terms Waste Removal Specialists, Flight Attendants and Servers. But I digress.
In this post I suggest one change for the new year. This single change renders all those resolutions obsolete and is 100% free, a pretty bold statement, I know! What could this one change be?
Expect the Best
If you can nail this one change, allowing life to give you the absolute best, you are set to thrive in all areas of your life. New opportunity is literally around the corner and when you are open to it magic happens.
As you move throughout your day, pause briefly as you transition to new experiences, environments and states of being. During this pause you will expect the best of the conversation you are about to have with your unreasonable and angry colleague. Or the proposal you are sitting down to type up that you have been putting off and now it is due this afternoon. Even the rush hour commute you won’t have to endure, because you took the time to expect the best and used the time as an opportunity to listen to a podcast or do a gratitude practice or use your blue tooth to catch up with a good friend and share some deep belly laughs.
It is a simple change, but one that takes dedication, consistency and awareness.
Hey, if it was easy, everyone would be doing it and I wouldn’t have anything to write about today, would I?
Start small.
When you first wake up in the morning in the pitch black of winter, tell yourself, “I am excited for this day, I am blessed to have it to live and to laugh and to love.” You are going to set your alarm for 15 minutes earlier than normal and get up and do your morning meditation to set yourself up for success all day long. And set the intention to do it daily as often as you can.
You will see the difference.
Once you find yourself pausing regularly throughout the day opening up to opportunity. You can use your inner dialogue to expect more as the Law of Attraction send you an abundance of whatever it is you are putting out there.
Say things to yourself like:
“Lunch with my supervisor is going to be our best yet. I am prepared for her habit of spitting her lunch across the table directly onto mine as she excitedly tells me about her on-line dating experiences. I will sit off-side so her splatter misses my garden greens rather than becoming the mystery ingredient in the cranberry pumpkin seed crumble. I got this!!”
You can turn most things around with your mindset . The key is, to allow these experiences in before they happen, so that you can manifest and create them from an energetic state. You will enter meetings, dates and awkward social functions with re-newed confidence and grace.
Don’t micromanage yourself with resolutions, expect the best!
