If you offer a free discovery call, sales consultation, or intro session as a way to connect with potential clients, I posted this for you. Whatever you call it, this conversation is essential in converting interest into income.

But here’s the truth I see over and over as a business coach and sales trainer for service providers, too many people don’t have a sales system or a plan, essentially they’re winging it in their sales process and hoping for the best. This leads to low conversion, revenue and impact in your industry. Never mind the toll it’s taking on your peace of mind.

You’re passionate. You’re skilled. You care deeply. Do you have a sales system to support the meaningful impact you desire?

Without a clear sales system, you’re missing opportunities to build trust, showcase your value, and confidently guide clients into your offers and the very important results they provide.

I get it. I’m a creative and multi-discipline certified coach myself. I know how vulnerable it can feel to “sell” your services when all you really want to do is help. Yet when you approach your sales process with intention and structure, you create a powerful experience that serves both you and your potential client.

Here are three simple but game-changing tips to help you make the most of your free consultations so you can sign more aligned clients with clarity, confidence, and ease.

1. Make It Easy to Book

Is your booking system easeful and professional? This is a key ingredient to your community building sales system.

If someone lands on your site or clicks your link in bio, can they immediately schedule a call with you in just a few taps?

Your scheduling process is the first part of your sales experience. A clunky form or confusing process breaks trust before the call even begins. Use a clean, mobile-friendly scheduler and include a brief description of what the call includes so they know what to expect.

2. Be Prepared (Not Perfect)

As Oprah says, “Luck is when preparation meets opportunity.” If you’re winging your sales conversations, you’re not only hurting your conversion rate, you’re short-changing the people who need your work the most.

Preparation doesn’t mean being robotic. It means having:

  • A structure or outline to guide the call
  • Clarity on what you’re listening for
  • The mindset to lead with service, not pressure

This is how you hold space with confidence and turn conversations into aligned clients without ever feeling salesy.

3. Embrace your role as the Director

Your prospect booked this call because they need support that they feel you can provide. This means they already believe you can be the solution they’r seeking, isn’t that encouraging? That’s why it’s your job to lead the conversation, set clear expectations, and guide them through a process that feels safe and spacious.

Start your call by saying something like:

“Here’s how our time together will flow, I’ll ask you a few questions to understand where you’re at, we’ll explore what kind of support you’re looking for, and I’ll share what I recommend. Sound good?”

Most people feel nervous on sales calls. When you take charge with warmth and clarity, they’ll feel more at ease and more likely to trust you as the right person to help them. Setting expectations works like being able to see far off into the distance, it calms the nervous system, which allows people to really listen and hear you.

Final Thoughts

If your sales system feels ready for elevation, start with one things that feels juiciest to you and start there. Go for progress over perfection. The world is intense. Life is full. Business can be beautiful and brutal. Making more of an impact with your gifts, while increasing revenue is a great place to begin.
